UK weather forecast: Sunny 21C highs before two day gale force wind warning hits

Brits have been warned to enjoy Monday's sunny weather while they can before gale force winds hit the country.

In a brief respite from Storm Ellen, the new week will beginning with mostly bright conditions and highs of 21C in parts of the south after some morning rain.

While not reaching the record breaking 37C highs of July, much of the UK will see blue skies and pleasant conditions - though they won't last for very long.

The Met Office has issued a two day weather warning on Tuesday and Wednesday, with winds of up to 60mph expected to batter large parts of the UK.

The yellow warning for wind kicks in at 9am tomorrow and continues until midday the next day.

The Met Office says disruption to travel, power cuts and large waves in coastal communities are all on cards during the bad weather, described as being 'more like October or November' than the height of summer.

BBC forecaster Tomasz Schafernaker said: "The weather's not looking too bad for most of us for the start of the week, Monday is going to bring some sunshine.

"It might be a little cloudy and rainy first thing in the morning across the south of the UK but that should give way to sunny spells come lunchtime.

"Now make the most of Monday - Tuesday is looking very different, and Atlantic storm is lurking and is headed our way.

"It's going to bring rain and gales."

The bad weather is set to move in on Monday evening, propelled by a powerful jetstream.

"This is more like an autumn low in October or November," Tomasz continued. "The Met Office warns the gales will be worst across the southern half of the UK, they could prove disruptive. "

Gusts inland could exceed 50mph and exceed 60mph along the coasts.

The latest weather warnings come just days after the UK was hit by Storm Ellen, bringing strong winds of up to 75mph.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

After a chilly start further rain will edge in from the west Thursday.
