Londoners headed to the capital’s parks as temperatures rose to 25C across the country on Tuesday.

The spell of sunshine has given Britons fresh hope as summer finally arrived in the UK with temperatures beginning to climb in August.

Glorious weather was enjoyed all over the country on Tuesday with many Britons hitting the beach in Dorset.

Meteorologist Matt Taylor revealed temperatures reached 25C in some parts of the country on Tuesday.

He told The Sun: “Temperatures should be closer to where they should be at this time of year with one or two areas seeing 25 or 26 degrees possibly.”

After flooding and thunderstorms, a heatwave had been on the cards for August.

So far London has weathered 46mm of rain, compared to the 53mm which usually falls in the whole month of August.

Grahame Madge, a Met Office spokesman, said: “August has essentially been a case of mixed fortune with some areas seeing drier weather than usual, while others have virtually had a whole month of rainfall in just 10 days.

“We’re not expecting to see record-breaking weather, as there have certainly been wetter Augusts in the past but many areas have faced a very wet and intense period of rain.

“We are putting this down to an area of low pressure which is moving slowly across the country bringing the damp conditions many have seen.”

He added: “Do not expect to see heatwave conditions, but dry, sunny spells for many. However, there may be a few outbreaks of rain in Northern Ireland and Scotland as the week progresses.”
