UK weather forecast: Storms to batter the country today - how is your region affected?

Storms are set to batter the country today and into this weekend with winds as strong as 60mph along with 100mm of rain.

The Met Office has issued thunderstorm warnings across much of the country including Scotland, Northern Ireland, northern England and North Wales.

It is in place from Friday until the end of Saturday and says that up to 100mm of rain could fall in some places, with the possibility of between 20 and 30mm in just one hour.

Spokesman Grahame Madge said: "We do have a very unsettled weekend in prospect, with a lot of it covered by a thunderstorm and rain warnings.

"We have got an area of low pressure which will be milling around over the UK bringing rain to quite large parts, so I think everywhere can expect to see quite heavy showers."
