UK weather forecast: Storm Sebastien to make way for four days of sunshine

Storm Sebastien will subside today, making way for four days of sunshine.

Heavy rain will lash the UK again today, although the skies will clear tomorrow as sunshine covers the country.

Despite the bright conditions, freezing temperatures are expected and forecasters have advised Brits to wrap up warm.

Two Met Office rain warnings are in force today, with one affecting south-west England and south Wales, while the other covers north-east England.

The south-west alert is in force until noon and warned of more than an inch of rain in some areas, potentially causing flooding.

Brits are set to enjoy a four-day break from the downpours (PA)

The north-east warning starts at 9am today and is set to end at 6am tomorrow, leading to possibly further flooding.

Forecasters say more than an inch-and-a-half of rain could fall in parts of the region, around a third of the monthly average.

Met Office forecaster Craig Snell told Mirror Online: "The remnants of Sebastien have now been absorbed into an area of low pressure, which will dominate the UK today.

"It will be a wet 24 hours for north-east England. But as we go through the next few days, we will transition to drier, sunnier and colder weather .

"On Thursday we start to see things change in the north as it turns colder but brighter across Scotland.

"There will be three or four days of dry weather, which is certainly good news for Yorkshire and places which have seen lots of rain.

"As we go into Friday, colder air establishes itself across UK. As low pressure moves to the continent, an area of high pressure will move in behind, allowing this wind to develop.

"Most by the afternoon will see plenty of sunshine, although it will be a much colder day. Into the weekend most of us will see dry weather and some spells of sunshine."

Temperatures will plunge tomorrow, with highs of 5C in Inverness, compared to 10C today.

Mr Snell recommended people 'raid the wardrobe' for coats and scarves as the mercury tumbles.

He added that there could be a 'fly in the ointment' on Saturday as rain lashes south Wales and south-west England, ruining the dry conditions.

The Environment Agency has issued 21 flood warnings and 104 less serious flood alerts.
