UK weather forecast: Storm Ciara to bring strong winds and 'stormy' conditions this weekend

Storm Ciara is set to batter Britain with 80mph winds this weekend.

The Met Office has warned Bristolians to expect "stormy" conditions, saying the South West should expect the worst conditions from Saturday evening (February 8).

The weather agency issued a warning for "very strong winds" across the entire UK yesterday (February 4).

The warning is currently in place from 6pm on Saturday (February 8) until 11.59pm the following day.

In its latest update on Twitter, the Met Office said: "#StormCiara has been named and will bring very unsettled weather across the UK through Saturday night and Sunday."

"Keep weather aware for Storm Ciara - with the strongest winds for South West England expected from Saturday evening through all of Sunday - especially if you are travelling, out and about, or thinking about going out on the water."

The alert warns of a risk of flying debris, longer journey times and power cuts.

What to expect

The Met Office said to expect: "Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport expected.

"There is a small chance that some roads and bridges could close.

"There is a slight chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage.

"There is a slight chance of some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs."

The outlook for the South West for this weekend states: "Conditions deteriorate on Friday as winds pick up from the west and rain moves in overnight.

"Saturday looks increasingly windy, but mostly dry by day.

"Potentially stormy by Sunday."
