Snow is expected overnight in parts of the country only days after Storm Erik battered the UK, weather forecasters have said.
Temperatures will fall to -1C in some parts as snowfall is predicted in hilly areas.
It just comes one day after the UK was hit with strong winds and flooding as widespread disruption was caused after Storm Erik brought travel chaos and power shortages to Britain.
Storm Erik has now left the UK but hill snow is now expected across parts of England and Wales later this evening.
“Showery rain and the risk of some hill snow will continue to push south-eastwards across a lot of England and Wales, clearing all but the far south-east of England by the end of the night leaving most places dry with clear spells,” forecasters from Meteogroup UK said.
“Showery rain and perhaps some hill snow will also push south across northern and eastern parts of Scotland for a time, clearing to leave a mainly dry, cold and frosty night for a lot of Scotland and Northern Ireland.”
Looking ahead it will be a cold and frosty start for many on Monday with a dry and fine day for most with spells of sunshine.
However, cloud and some patchy rain may push into Northern Ireland later in the day.
For the rest of the week there is likely to be patchy rain, but the weather should be milder.
“Largely dry and bright in the south and east. Cloudier and windier further north with patchy rain at times. Milder than of late, but still with risk of overnight frost,” the Met Office said.
