UK weather forecast: Snow and ice warning issued as cold snap rages on

A snow and ice warning has been issued for the UK as the latest cold snap stays on.

Two yellow weather warnings are in place for the majority of the country today (Wednesday).

Experts have warned of disruption to transport and danger of injury while the alerts are in place.

The Met Office says: "Wintry showers and icy stretches likely to bring some travel disruption."

The warnings are in place until 10am on today.

Speaking to Mirror Online Met Office meteorologist Bonnie Diamond said: "On Thursday there is a small chance of snow over higher ground, across all of the south and southern Wales.

"We are forecasting as rain, but it could be snow over higher ground."

Met Office Chief Meteorologist Frank Saunders said: “Later on Tuesday and early Wednesday, don't be surprised to see some snow falling even in Wales and the south, although again most of any lying snow will be over hills.”

The white stuff isn't predicted to fall in Bristol but a yellow weather warning for ice is in place for our city.

It will be a chilly start today, with the feels likes temperatures dipping to -1C at 7am and only climbing to 4C after lunch.

There is little chance of rain throughout Wednesday and forecasters are predicting sunny spells in the afternoon.
