UK weather forecast: Snow and heavy rain to batter Britain as Met Office issues yellow warning

Snow, heavy rains and unsettled conditions will hit the UK this week as the worst of spring weather arrives with some force.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain, which will be particularly heavy across southern and southwestern regions.

It will come into force at 6pm on Tuesday and will last until 9am on Wednesday.

The downpours and wind are likely to create “difficult driving conditions” and flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely, according to forecasters.

“It will be unsettled,” said Richard Miles, a meteorologist from the Met Office told The Independent

“It will be pretty wet and windy and there might be a few gales.”

Hill snow is also likely to fall throughout the week in Scotland and northern England.

By Thursday thundery showers are expected across the UK's southern regions.

But the unsettled weather will occasionally give way to milder conditions, with the mercury likely to hit 13C to 15C in England and Wales, while slightly lower temperatures are expected in Scotland

Drier and brighter spells will alternate with windy, wet ones until the end of the week.

“It is typical early spring weather,” Mr Miles said.
