Brits are set to be blasted by an Arctic freeze that will send the mercury plummeting to sub-zero temperatures this week.
On Monday forecasters expect a chilly start to the day that will see temperatures stay largely in single digits for most areas with some parts near 0C.
And there are warnings that it is set to get even colder in days with forecasters predicting temperatures to drop below zero in some areas.
Following an unusually warm October, colder weather has begun to blanket the country in recent days.
On Monday there will be a frosty start with temperatures starting at about 1C in Scotland and 2C in Manchester in the early hours of the morning.
The freeze will spark a blast of early snow which could continue for three days, with an inch expected to fall each day in places next week.
According to WXCharts the snowfall will be limited to the Scottish Highlands.
The forecasts shows the freezing weather is set to continue until the weekend when the south west of England can expect lows of 0C.
The Met Office states: "The unsettled weather picture continues mainly for northern England and Scotland with further spells of wet and windy weather at times.
"These will slowly spread southwards and weaken through Tuesday and into Wednesday. Conditions generally drier in the south with temperatures around then becoming above normal for the time of year.”
And from next week the weather will get even colder with freezing conditions expected in north England with -2C expected in cities, and -1C in South Wales.
Much of the rest of the country - including the Midlands, the south of England and London - will hit 0C.
Writing on Netweather, forecaster Terry Scholey said that after a “fair” weekend for Guy Fawkes celebrations, things would take a turn for the worse.
Meanwhile, the UK is bracing for tropical storm Wanda which is set to strike from Tuesday.
A US National Hurricane Centre map shows it is headed right for the country and it set to bring sustained winds.
