Winds of up to 75mph are forecast to hit Scotland and the north of England later this week while the south coast faces yet more flooding after a deluge in recent weeks.
The Met Office has issued yellow warnings for wind on Tuesday, meaning delays to bus services and rail, air and ferry transport, as well as power cuts, are likely.
The Environment Agency had six flood warnings and 26 flood alerts in place on Sunday night as river levels remained high and ground saturated. They were in places including Somerset, Dorset, Berkshire, Oxfordshire and Wiltshire.
However, temperatures will be above average, with some parts of the UK reaching the teens, forecasters say.
About 100 homes were flooded before Christmas after torrential rain swept across the country for days on end.
One woman died and politicians from flood-stricken northern regions called on the government to invest millions in better flood defences. Flooding stretched from Yorkshire to the south coast.
Forecaster Ben Rich said that on Tuesday the thermometer could even reach 16C, which was “very unusual” for the time of the year, although Wednesday would be colder again, at around 13C.
A frost was possible early on Friday, he said, but it would be mild again at the weekend.
