UK weather forecast: Remnants of Hurricane Dorian and Storm Gabriel to bring wet and windy weather to UK

Britons are braced for wet and windy weather as the remnants of two major Atlantic storms head towards the UK.

Forecasters have said there will be changeable conditions from the start of the week as ex-Hurricane Dorian and ex-Storm Gabriel move towards Britain.

Dorian has left a trail of destruction as 200mph winds battered the Bahamas and moved north along the eastern US seaboard towards Canada over the past week.

As the system travels across to the UK, Monday will see a band of rain moving eastwards across the country with possible thunderstorms and temperatures struggling to reach above 16 degrees.

“There could be quite heavy rain in the afternoon and we could even see some thunderstorms,” Met Office forecaster Craig Snell told the Standard

“There will be a maximum of 16 degrees in London, a good few degrees below what we should be for this time of year.”

Tuesday is set to have brighter, warmer weather but the remnants of Dorian will move in overnight.

“It will be the tail end of it,” Mr Snell said.

“At this point it will be a very different system than what it was over the Bahamas and US.”

He said there will be a spell of wet weather and risk of gales in the far north of England and in Scotland and Wales.

“By the time most people have woken up on Wednesday it will have moved out into the North Sea,” he added.

But on Thursday, the remnants of tropical storm Gabriel will begin to move in, bringing another spell of wet weather mainly across the north of the country.

Mr Snell said there were no warnings out as of Sunday afternoon for the week ahead.

“It will be a bit of an up and down week with temperatures making a slow recovery towards the 20s after Monday,” he said.
