UK weather forecast: Parts of Britain could be hotter than Barcelona as mercury climbs to 19C

Parts of the UK could be hotter than Barcelona today as the mercury soars to 19 degrees.

After a recent spell of snow last week, parts of the UK will bask in sunshine and warmer temperatures.

The warm spell could put parts of the UK hotter than Barcelona where temperatures are expected to climb to 17C and on a par with Portugal where it will be 19C.

The Met Office said there will be “good spells of sunshine” at the start of the week for chunks of the UK.

“It will be feeling quite warm for this time of year with temperatures in the region of 16 to 17 degrees,” meteorologist Craig Snell said.

“We could potentially see in the west of the UK temperatures getting to about 18 or 19.”

A few thunderstorms will develop over the Midlands and East Anglia and some areas could see shower spots in the afternoon.

After a misty morning in London, the mercury will hover around 15 degrees for much of the day before showers develop over Monday night.

“The first half of the day London will see some further rain - it's likely to be a wet commute in on Tuesday,” Mr Snell said.

Temperatures in Britain are expected to drop to around 5 degrees overnight before a cooler Tuesday.

In Wales, it should be fairly clear in the south, but with a strong chance of rain in the north.

Areas in the north of England and north Wales are expected to be sunnier.

Mr Snell said the warm temperatures will give way as the rest of the week continues, with temperatures expected to struggle to reach above 13 degrees for much of the country by Friday.

A mixture of dry and wet weather is also expected to continue throughout the week.
