UK weather forecast: Mini heatwave will see temperatures hit 27C by middle of next week

A mini heatwave starting tomorrow will see temperatures hit 27C as the UK enjoys more good weather this week, forecasters predict.

Saturday evening will remain relatively mild with clouds and some showers in northern areas of England and throughout Scotland.

But from Sunday onwards, the mercury will steadily rise from 20C up to a peak of 27C in London by the middle of the week.

“In England and Wales, it will be dry throughout Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday with lots of sunshine – not completely wall to wall, there will bits of cloud around – but the temperatures will be going a little higher each and every day as the week goes on,” Martin Bowles, operational meteorologist at the Met Office, told the Independent.

It will culminate in that 27C peak in the capital on Wednesday. In Manchester, the corresponding forecast is 26C.

Southern Scotland will also enjoy warmer than average weather, although cooler temperatures and rain will remain likely in the north and Northern Ireland, Mr Bowles added. Aberdeen is set to see the gauge hit just 16C by Wednesday.

The warmth will come after a notably chilly week in which the Met Office confirmed some of the lowest overnight May temperatures on record.

In Katesbridge in Northern Ireland the mercury plunged to -6.1C overnight on Wednesday – a result of Arctic air sweeping in under clear skies.

Daytime temperatures across the rest of the UK have generally hovered around 13 or 14C, meaning the coming conditions will signal a “pronounced rise”.
