Britain is facing a wet end to the week following a day of heavy rain across the UK.
Parts of the capital were at a standstill today after floods hit four central London stations. Meanwhile, some parts of the country saw as much as 51 millimetres of rain in just four hours.
Combined with leaves falling from trees, this led to the Met Office putting out a yellow weather warning, saying that “homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings”.
Over the next few days and into the weekend, the wet weather is likely continue - but is not expected to be as bad as Tuesday.
John Griffiths, a meteorologist at the Met Office, said: “We had some heavy showers and rumbles of thunder today.
“And there were three to five millimetres in an hour in London alone.
“We have some more areas of rain moving in from the west overnight that will move over the country, but we don’t expect any more warnings.
“Tomorrow [Wednesday] should be a mix of sunshine and showers. [But] it is going to be fairly wet through the rest of the week.”
Boscombe Down, in Wiltshire, saw 51 millimetres of rain in just four hours today. And Northolt, in north-west London, had 21 millimetres.
