A front from the Atlantic is set to move in overnight on Tuesday into Wednesday, bringing with it wet and breezy conditions - and even the chance of hail and thunder in Bristol.
But the Met Office has said it will not be a named storm and the weather should take a turn for the better by the weekend.
There have been reports that the weather forecasting service is preparing severe weather warnings, but forecaster Richard Miles told WalesOnline it is unlikely to be Storm Idris and should pass through fairly quickly.
He said: "There is a low pressure system heading towards the UK, but it is quite normal for the time of year.
"There will be heavy showers and a strong breeze into Wednesday morning.
"On Wednesday, there will be showers and sunshine through the day and under the cloud it will feel quite cold."
Richard Miles added that better weather was on the way with high pressure taking dominance over the weekend.
But it will remain cold overnight, with frost in some areas.
He said: "After some days of unsettled weather, it should start to settle down by the weekend, with Sunday being the best day when it could reach between 17 and 18C.
"There will be overnight frosts in some areas, especially on Thursday night when there could be lows of -1C."
Richard added that there is a good chance of drier, more settled weather to at least Friday.
