The Met Office has warned of heavy rain and flooding as strong winds across parts of the UK in the coming days.

Yellow weather warnings have been issued across south Wales and the south west, with disruption to travel and power supplies expected.

The warnings, which are in place from 6pm on Tuesday until 9am on Wednesday, forecast 20-30mm of rain across much of the south west, with up to 60mm over high ground.

The Met Office said the weather will remain unsettled but mild across the next few days.

Meteorologist Richard Miles said: “There are going to be showers in the north, moving from east to west throughout the day.

“Elsewhere, it will be dry for most of the day.

“Later on, it will be wet and windy in south Wales and the rest of the south west, with some weather warnings, but it will be less dramatic elsewhere.

“That rain will clear eastwards, followed by some showers.

“The weather is set to remain unsettled but mild, although it will be colder than average in Scotland.

“There will be some hill snow at the highest points in north west England and Scotland, but it won’t hang around.”

The forecaster warned that heavy rain could give some difficult driving conditions, with “flooding of a few homes and businesses likely.”

The warning also said that spray and flooding on roads could make journey times longer, with bus and train services also affected.
