UK heatwave 2019 as it happened: Second hottest day ever recorded in Britain

The UK saw its second hottest day on record as temperatures soared.

The record for the hottest July day was broken, after temperatures of 37.7 °C were recorded at Kew Gardens and Writtle, Essex, on Thursday.

Following that a temperature of 38.1C was recorded in Cambridge.

The hottest temperature ever recorded in the UK was 38.5C in Faversham, Kent, in August 2003.
