A severe weather warning has been issued with the remnants of Hurricane Oscar set to batter the UK over Bonfire Night weekend.

A yellow weather warning for rain is in place across western Scotland, with as much as 80mm expected to fall in some places on Saturday.

Rain will also lash western England and Wales throughout the day with heavy downfalls forecast, the Met Office said.

London and the south east is expected to avoid the wet weather, although the sky is expected to cloud over later in the day.

Forecaster Sophie Yeomans said: “Generally across the UK for any fireworks Friday looks like the best evening.

“It will be a nice clear day for most of the country, only really into the evening that rain will come along.

“However there is a weather warning for rain in place for western parts of Scotland into Saturday morning and throughout the day on Saturday.

“There will be a lot of rain, most places will see 30 to 50mm but there could be 60 to 80mm falling on higher ground. We will probably see some localised flooding.

“We will see more rain as Saturday goes on. It will spread throughout north-west England, south-west England and Wales.”

Although London and the south east will avoid the worst of the weather, more unsettled conditions are expected next week as temperatures start to climb throughout Britain.

“For these parts it should be another fine and sunny day, clouding over later and by Sunday it will be more unsettled,” she added.

“By Tuesday and Wednesday there will be more rainfall and strong winds in the south east.

“Oscar will bring milder temperatures with it, generally looking at 13, 14, 15C.”
