UK weather forecast: Icy blast will see widespread frost and freezing showers

A blast of icy air means the cold weather will continue for the UK today - with temperatures struggling to get into double figures.

It should remain dry for most, although there will be some patchy rain, ahead of a feared Easter weekend washout.

The isolated showers will be mainly in eastern areas and the far west in Cornwall and Northern Ireland.

There will even be frost in some parts tomorrow morning with highs of just 9C and bitter nighttime drops as low as -5C.

In its latest forecast, the Met Office said: "Most areas dry with sunny spells, although chilly.

"Isolated showers possible in eastern areas, mainly near the coast.

And tonight will be "Chilly with clear spells and a fairly widespread frost. Showers confined to North Sea coasts.

"Thicker cloud and possible outbreaks of rain across the far southwest of England and Wales."

A Met Office spokesman said: "Temperatures are colder for this time of year.

"They should be about 13C."

And the rain fears continue for next week's bumper Bank Holiday weekend.

Met Office forecaster Richard Miles told The Sun: “It’s looking like we could see a bit of rain over Easter, especially in the western parts of the UK.

“Temperatures could be slightly above average for the weekend itself. I wouldn’t rule out snow in parts of Scotland.”
