UK weather forecast: Heavy rain to continue before temperatures soar to 25C

Heavy rain will continue to batter the north today after days of devastating floods - while those in the south will see temperatures rise.

More bad weather for some regions follows days of severe weather warnings that have brought thunderstorms and rain to many regions.

The north east will be worst affected by the rain which could develop into thunderstorms later in the day,

But, in contrast, the south will remain dry and warm as the mercury rises to 25C.

Met Office meteorologist Becky Mitchell told Daily Express: "Plenty of sunshine out there first thing a bit cloudier in some areas though and for some of us we do have a scattering of showers mainly in Scotland.

"Parts of the highlands and stretching down towards Glasgow and Dumfries and Galloway a few scattered showers here.

"Also just pushing into the coast of Aberdeenshire there and northeast England but for many places it will be a dry and bright start."

The weekend will see brighter and warmer weather conditions mixed with scattered showers in the northwest.

Brighton, Dorset and Bournemouth are set to bake in the best of the weekend temperatures as the mercury again reaches 25C.

Ms Mitchell added: "Many places it will stay dry through today with plenty of sunny spells to come and feeling quite warm in the sunshine.

“The winds will be lighter than they were on Wednesday and temperatures could reach 25 degrees.”

A few showers across the southwest of England and South Wales are possible in the evening.

The bands of rain will shift across the UK towards different regions and bring in showers but the wettest conditions remain in the north and west.
