Brits are being warned of freezing temperatures in the days ahead and snow set to fall before Christmas.
The Met Office has said that the UK can expect snow in the second half of the month while weather maps suggest icy conditions from December 19.
On the back of deadly Storms Arwen and Barra, the country is being told to prepare for more rain and snow.
Many people were left without electricity after the storms cut cables during gales which were close to 90mph on Monday.
Barra's effects are still being felt, with roads closed due to flooding in places such as Greater Manchester. While temperatures have been milder - they are now predicted to drop in the days ahead.
Weather maps from WXCharts suggest suggest snow could fall across northern Scotland on Thursday night and possibly into Friday morning.
WXCharts is also showing a freezing weather system hitting the UK from December 19, due to air moving south from the Arctic and Scandinavia.
The whole of Scotland, Wales, northern and central parts of England turn a shade of light blue on weather maps, meaning sub-zero temperatures for the evening of December 19 with the north of the country worst affected.
The Met Office said there is a chance of rain and snow in high areas of the UK next week.
Its long term forecast said: "To begin the period, drier and clearer conditions are likely, allowing for more extensive frost and patchy fog.
"Cloud and strong winds will travel east across the country, with a chance of showers or longer spells of rain for many.
"Hill snow likely in the north. Temperatures generally around average.
"Moving through the period, largely unsettled conditions are likely to persist, with the chance of further showers and longer spells of rain, heavy in places, with a chance of gales.
"Some showers are likely to turn wintry on hills at times.
"Towards the end of the period, more settled conditions are likely to develop, most likely with milder temperatures, but a chance of some brief colder interludes."
The BBC long-range weather forecast says Scotland and Northern Ireland “may continue to be impacted by Atlantic weather systems” during this period.
The forecast says the conditions is being driven by an area of high pressure over Europe and low pressure from Iceland.
Minimum temperature charts predict lows of 0C in the North, 1C in the South and 1C in Scotland overnight on December 20, the Express reported.
But the latest windchill prediction from WXCharts suggests it will feel like 0C to-5C.
