UK weather forecast: 'Danger to life' warning for heavy rain and floods TODAY

A 'danger to life' weather warning for heavy rain and floods is in place for parts of the UK this morning.

The Met Office issued the notice for the north of England on Monday evening and it will remain in place until at least 10am on Tuesday.

The forecaster says rain could lead to more flooding and cause travel disruption during the morning rush hour.

The yellow warning covers all of Manchester, Liverpool and Blackpool.

Other parts of the country appear to fare much better in the Tuesday forecast, though the far south west is also expected to see thick cloud and showers.

London and the south east will have the best of the weather , with more summery conditions and up to 20c sunshine by mid afternoon.

The latest weather warning comes after torrential rain and howling winds battered much of the country on Monday.

The Met Office yesterday warned more than half a month's worth of rain could fall in just two to three hours.

And, unusually for the UK, a tornado warning was put in place yesterday evening by the Tornado and Storm Research Organisation.

It's been a wet start to August after July's scorching heatwave, and there's more downpours on the way.

MET OFFICE OUTLOOK

Tuesday night

Showers dying out to leave northern and eastern parts mostly dry, clear and chilly.

Further showers in northwest. Rain and freshening winds in the southwest will move northeastwards overnight.

Wednesday

Rain, some heavy, affecting England and Wales will clear eastwards, leaving murky conditions.

Becoming brighter inland with heavy showers developing. Drier and brighter in the north, but further rain later.

Thursday

Changeable with sunny spells and showers away from any spells of rain.

Often windy, temperatures generally on the cool side, occasionally chilly overnight in the north.
