UK weather forecast: Cooler temperatures with a mixture of sunny spells and showers

The weekend brought a warm and sunny start to summer, but sadly it’s not expected to last this week.

After temperatures reached almost 30C in parts of the UK over the weekend, which is the hottest it has been so far this year, it looks like the warm weather is not here to stay.

According to the Met Office there will be some sunshine throughout the week, but there will also be plenty of showers across the UK throughout the next five days.

A Met Office spokesperson said: “It’s not going to be a complete washout, but temperatures are not going to be anything to write home about.”

Throughout the week, temperatures are not expected to surpass 20C, which is actually cooler than what is expected for this time of year.

After a blustery Sunday night, it promises to stay windy on Monday morning with showery rain across northwestern part of the country.

Elsewhere there'll be sunny spells, with scattered showers in the west first thing spreading into central areas in the afternoon.

The rest of the week also promises to be pretty unsettled with a mixture of sunny spells and showers, heavy and thundery in places.

And at times longer spells of rain and stronger winds are possible.
