UK weather forecast: Brits to bask in days of glorious sunshine as temperatures hit the mid-20s

Brits are expected bask in glorious sunshine over the coming days as the mercury hits the mid-20s.

Tropical weather dragged north by Hurricane Dorian and other storms will see parts of the UK enjoying a late taste of summer.

But shorter days mean that the nights will still be cool, and parts of the country will get hit by wind and rain.

Grahame Madge, a spokesman for the Met Office, said: “Parts of the south east could see temperatures in the low 20s, pushing up to the mid-20s.”

“But there will be quite a significant split between the south east and the north west, especially over the weekend," he added.

“A weather system to the north west will bring quite intense rainfall to Scotland by the middle of Saturday.

“It will move south and on Sunday could reach parts of north Wales.”

London is likely to get the warmest weather in the upcoming week. Mr Madge added that Birmingham will likely be in the low 20s, Newcastle and Glasgow the high teens.

This compares to a monthly average of 17C in the UK during September, or 18C in the capital.

Mr Madge said the recent stormy weather in the Caribbean and up the east coast of the USA has helped bring milder weather to Britain.

He added: “By the time they get to the north Atlantic they can’t sustain themselves.

“But the tropical storms drag warm air behind them."
