UK weather forecast: Brits set to bask in glorious sunshine as temperatures soar

Brits are set to bask in glorious sunshine as soaring temperatures replace a week of colder, rainy weather.

The mercury will rise over the coming days, reaching the high teens by Wednesday and even hitting the low 20s in some areas, forecasters say.

A high pressure system will bring dry and settled conditions with light winds and plenty of sunshine particularly in south-east England, northern England and Scotland.

“Temperatures are starting to build now, so it’s a day on day, warming up until Wednesday when we will see this high pressure move on," a Met Office spokeswoman said.

Clear skies will lead to chilly nights with the risk of patchy rural frost as well as mist and fog, a Met Office spokeswoman added.

“[Temperatures] will be slightly above average [during the day]," she said. "We are certainly going to see some colder nights."

"By the middle of next week, we will see temperatures in the high teens and low 20s."

She added that Glasgow may see temperatures reach 22C and Wednesday is likely to be the warmest day across the country.

"We are going to see temperatures higher than average and this Sunday is going to be a warm sunny day," she said.

However, by next weekend, conditions are likely to become more rainy and windy with temperatures cooling as the high pressure system moves away.

"The weather will become a little bit more unsettled with showers and clouds from Thursday and Friday," the spokeswoman said.

"However a little uncertainty remains over exactly where different conditions like rain and cooler temperatures will fall."

"So until we get nearer the time, it is difficult to be precise about where we will see which conditions."
