Locked down Britain is facing a battering today with the Met Office warning of 75mph gale force winds and lightning in parts - while others will be hit with rain showers.
The weekend is due to bring a mini heatwave of 20C but before that parts of the country will see a flurry of more severe weather.
Forecaster Aidan McGivern said Thursday will see a "less frosty start" compared to yesterday in the south but in northern parts of Scotland "things turn colder".
A "strengthening wind" that is likely to turn gale force around the coasts could cause severe damage in the Shetland Islands as it reaches 75mph - said Mr McGivern.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for wind, in place between 6am and 3pm with loss of power a possibility.
Mr McGivern said in and around the area affected by the warning there will also be "frequent snow showers and lightning".
"In fact, a snow covering is possible north of Inverness and a few more wintry showers across southern Scotland," continued the meteorologist.
"But for England, Wales, Northern Ireland, it's rain showers and a fair amount of fine weather as well."
It is expected to be milder the further south you go but will remain cold in the north with "further wintry showers" into Thursday evening.

Britain is set to bask in sunshine on Sunday, with temperatures warmer than Greece and Portugal.

The mercury is set to hit 20C, sizzling compared to the 14C in Greek capital Athens and 16C on Portugal’s Algarve coast.
Families are expected to dust off barbies as they make the most of the sun in their gardens.
Met Office spokeswoman Nicola Maxey said: “For many Sunday will be a T-shirt and barbie day.
"The east of the country will have the warmest weather and while the west will have more cloud, it will still be lovely and warm.”
