UK weather forecast: Britain to be 'hotter than Benidorm' with 24C temperatures

Britain will bask in temperatures as high as 24C this week, according to the Met Office .

The UK is set to be hotter than Benidorm thanks to warm air coming across the Channel.

The hottest wave of sunny spells will arrive on Wednesday but there'll be plenty of sun for much of the week say forecasters.

Met Office meteorologist Craig Snell told The Sun: "We're going to be expecting very dry weather with plenty of sun within the next three days.

"The temperature will peak on Wednesday, reaching 24C in parts of Scotland and northern England.

"We're going to see some rain creep in the the second half of the week, as temperatures will begin to settle down on Friday."

Enjoy it while you can though, as temperatures are already set to cool off, if only a little, by Thursday.

And into the weekend, showers will become more widespread across the UK along with strengthening winds.

The Met Office's long-range forecast for the weekend says: "On Friday we will see a change to cloudier conditions, with showers increasingly likely across the UK, along with strengthening winds. the showers are most likely to be across central and eastern areas.

"The winds will lower daytime temperatures below the seasonal average, particularly in the south and east. "

Forecast for next few days

Sunday night

The evening will be dry with clear skies for many but it will be mostly cloudy across northern Scotland, including the Northern Isles.

Through the night, it will remain dry with clear skies for most and cloud will persist in northern Scotland. A few mist patches may develop in eastern England.

Monday

Tomorrow will be fine and dry with long spells of sunshine but there will be patchy cloud in northern Scotland.

There will be a few mist patches during the morning across eastern England, although they will clear readily through the morning. Winds will be light to gentle from the south-east.

Tuesday and Wednesday

Tuesday is set to be dry with long spells of sunshine for all areas. Light to gentle south-easterly winds.

Wednesday will be dry, warm and sunny across England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Most of Scotland will be sunny too be there will be patches of cloud for central areas. Gentle easterly winds.
