UK weather forecast: Britain set for heatwave after spells of rain

A scorching heatwave is set to hit Britain, with highs of between 26C to 29C forecast for parts of England this Saturday.

The Met Office says the southern and south-east regions will likely get the highest temperatures this weekend as the rest of the UK get a dose of cloudy heat.

Mirror Online reports that a meteorologist for the service predicts Kent and Suffolk could be in for the winning combination of peak temperatures and clearest skies this weekend.

Before we get to the weekend however, there will likely be a few spells of rain for some across the country.

Today's (July 15) forecast reads: "Mostly cloudy, especially early, with patchy rain and drizzle.

"Little change towards the northwest but turning drier elsewhere, parts of the south and east most likely to brighten up."

The outlook for Thursday to Saturday adds: "Cloudy in the west Thursday with patchy drizzle, bright in the east.

"Rain spreading south Friday and Saturday, with showers to the north and warm sunny spells to the south."

In Bristol, temperatures will slowly build throughout the week until the weekend when sunny spells and highs of 21C are expected.
