UK weather forecast: Britain could see hottest Easter Sunday in 178 YEARS

Britain could be set for the hottest Easter Sunday in 178 years, as temperatures soar this weekend.

After a relatively cold snap last week, the mercury could reach a sizzling 25C in some parts - thanks to a plume of hot hair blown in from Greece.

The hottest Easter Sunday since Met Office records began in 1841 was recorded as 25.3C on April 24, 2011 in Solent, Hampshire.

And constant glorious sunshine predicted over the weekend and into Easter Monday could see things getting even hotter than eight years ago.

The hottest day of this year is so far is February 26 - recorded as 21.2C at Kew, west London.

Supermarkets are braced for a BBQ food rush. Asda is expected to sell close to 750,000 burgers and 350,000 sausages.

Sainsbury's is set to see ice lolly sales quadruple, sales trends show.

But daytrippers will clog roads, with traffic jams due on coastal routes including the A23 to Brighton, A31 to Dorset, A30 to Cornwall and M55 to Blackpool.

Highs will be 13C above average, 12C April highs and hotter than Malibu, California, which is due to be 19C at the weekend.
