UK weather forecast: Britain braced for washout weekend as severe wind and rain raises prospect of 'danger to life'

The UK is facing a washout weekend as severe wind and rain raising the prospect of "danger to life", forecasters have warned.

The Met Office has issued two warnings for Saturday, predicting winds of 50mph in London and two weeks worth of rain in parts of the UK.

A wind alert will be in force from 4am until 4pm which covers east, south-east, south and south-west England, as well as south Wales.

The weather forecaster has also issued a rain warning for 6am to 10pm on Saturday, with nearly all of Wales and north-west England to be hit with heavy downpours.

Both Met Office's wind and rain warnings raise the prospect of "danger to life".

Heavy rain downpours could also cause flooding in Wales and the south-west.

Met Office meteorologist Marco Petagna warned of "flying debris" over the weekend including "branches from trees" due to the windy weather.

He advised that there would be no need to avoid going outdoors, but advised people to avoid coastal areas over the weekend.

By Guy Fawkes night on Tuesday the weather will become colder, and we could see fog across the UK

"There could be fog almost anywhere," Mr Petgana said.
