UK weather forecast as 'mini heatwave' predicted in September

After a largely dull August, there could be some good news for us in September.

Temperatures are set to rise in a 'mini-heatwave' in the coming week, with the mercury hitting highs of 25C.

Sunnier, brighter conditions are predicted, so there may be a chance to get that last BBQ of the year in before Autumn arrives.

According to forecasters at the Met Office, today (Friday) will be mostly overcast across Greater Manchester with temperatures reaching around 17C.

Saturday is expected to be another cloudy day but it will start to get a little warmer, with average temperatures of around 19C.

Forecasters predict warmer days across the region on Sunday and Monday.

It is expected to be cloudy but warm with temperatures of around 22C.

Tuesday is when the bright, sunny weather is expected to make an appearance.

According to the Met Office, the mercury will reach around 24C in the afternoon and it will be a mostly sunny day.

Temperatures are set to climb even more on Wednesday and Thursday, reaching 25C on Wednesday afternoon.

Both are expected to be bright, sun-filled days across Greater Manchester.

Across the UK, highs of 26C are forecast on Tuesday and Wednesday next week.

The weather is then likely to turn cooler as we head towards the weekend, forecasters have said.

Met Office meteorologist Alex Deakin told the Mirror how the fallout from Hurricane Ida is set to influence weather conditions across the country.

"The remnants of Hurricane Ida will be drawing up a lot of warmth and rain", he said.

"The energetic system from the tropics will push the jet stream up to the north that then dives down."
