UK weather: Dry and sunny Tuesday with highs of 24C

Britain looks set for a largely dry and sunny Tuesday with highs of 24C in the south, according to the Met Office.

Tuesday morning will get off to a chilly start for much of the UK, with temperatures in single digits in Birmingham and Hull.

But conditions will warm up as morning mist gives way to brighter spells and sunshine.

Highs of 24C are forecast for the south of England. North of the border, temperatures will be considerably cooler. Thermometers will struggle to get above 16C in Glasgow.

Most of England will remain dry with sunny spells on Tuesday, but there could be some showers in Northern Ireland and western Scotland.

Northern England may see some rain as the day progresses. “A rather fresh start to Tuesday, but a beautiful one,” said Met Office meteorologist Alex Deakin.

“Across northern Scotland, still a few showers here through the morning. One or two could develop through the day over Northern Ireland, southern Scotland and northern England.

“But not as many as Monday. Most places will be dry until we start to see thickening cloud and drizzly rain for parts of Northern Ireland and western Scotland by the end of the afternoon.

“For the vast majority though, it is a fine bright day with plenty of sunny spells.”

On Wednesday, there will be plenty of cloud and outbreaks of rain across Scotland and Northern Ireland, with some heavy in western Scotland.

Northern parts of England and Wales will be damp.

However, southern parts of England and Wales are set to be fine and dry with spells of sunshine and gentle southwesterly winds.

Going into Thursday, cloud and light showers will cross the UK from west to east. It will be bright but fresh later in the north and west.

Friday is set to be fine and dry with plenty of sunshine across central and eastern areas, mostly cloudy in the west with an increasing risk of showers. Moderate winds are expected.
