UK weather: Dry and mild weather to make way for rain showers later this week

Dry and mild weather will make way for some rain showers later in the week, the Met Office has warned.

After a blustery and wet Christmas , the weather has recently become less turbulent for many parts of the country.

Forecasters say this settled weather will continue today (December 30), with rain only expected across Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The Met Office's general UK forecast for today states: "Early rain over northwest Scotland spreading across Scotland and Northern Ireland.

"Early low cloud and fog patches over East Anglia and southern England lingering all day for some. Otherwise fine."

In Bristol, the weather be foggy changing to cloudy by late morning, with sunny intervals expected from 12pm onwards.

Temperatures in the south west are expected to reach around 10C.

The Met Office has warned however that rain will be moving south-east across the country later in the week on Thursday (January 2) and Friday (January 3).

The outlook for the rest of the week says:  "Most places dry but often cloudy, with light winds at first.

"Winds increasing from the north-west through Wednesday; turning milder with rain moving south-east across many parts through Thursday.

"Feeling cold on Friday, as a band of rain continues to clear southeastwards across the UK followed by clearer skies and showers.

"There is a risk that these showers could turn wintry across northern areas."

After a mostly dry week, light rain showers will hit Bristol on Thursday morning followed by cloudy weather on Friday.
