UK weather: Country to be battered by strong winds and thundery showers

The country is set to be battered by strong winds and thundery showers as 'autumnal' June continues.

The Met Office has said the warm and sunny weather we were enjoying just a week ago is unlikely to return until the end of the month, Mirror Online reports.

The weather agency's long range forecast predicts temperatures won't reach 'above average' until towards the end of the month.

Until then, the forecast looks a lot more unsettled for many of us compared to last month, with heavy showers and windy conditions predicted.

The UK forecast for today (June 6) reads: "Rain or showers for many with heaviest showers over northern and east England by day.

"Windy and cool for most."

The outlook for Sunday to Tuesday then states: "Rain spreading southward on Sunday, becoming drier and brighter from the northwest.

"Isolated showers in the south Monday, sunny spells elsewhere.

"Southern areas fine Tuesday, rain into the northwest later."

In Bristol, we can expect cloudy conditions and highs of 16C today.
