UK weather: Country to bake in highs of 27C before rain moves in

Enjoy the warm weather while you can because rain and colder temperatures are about to move in.

Bristol has been basking in wall to wall sunshine over the last couple of days.

Our city - and the rest of the country - will still be able to enjoy glorious blue skies and the mercury climbing to the mid 20s at the beginning of the week, but experts say more unsettled weather will arrive by Thursday.

Today (July 16) should be hot for most parts of the UK, as temperatures peak at 25C in Bristol and could reach up to 27C in parts of the South East.

But by Thursday, downpours will be widespread, affecting nearly all of the UK.

And Friday will see heavy showers hitting the whole country.

A Met Office spokesperson said: "Tuesday, we'll see changes just starting to take place, as we being to head downhill toward a less settled spell of weather.

"What that initial change does is get rid of the onshore breeze which has North Sea coasts and eastern Britain in general cooler of late. That means the east gets in on the warmer act, with temperatures widely heading up into the low-mid twenties.

"Wednesday then sees a spell of wind and rain moving in from the northwest, with sunshine and relatively widespread showers ahead of it. It'll still be very warm with sunny spells away from the showers for most of England though."

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Cloudy and wet in the northwest on Wednesday. Mainly sunny elsewhere, with a few showers. Sunny spells and some heavy showers on Thursday. Grey, wet and windy on Friday.
