UK weather: Cold snap to hit UK bringing freezing temperatures before Easter heatwave

Brits are set to shiver as temperatures plunge to 1C this weekend before an expected heatwave this Easter.

Forecasters have warned that a cold front will sweep over the UK on Thursday evening, bringing freezing air and windy weather.

The Met Office has predicted temperatures as low as 1C in central Scotland in the early hours of Saturday morning.

However, temperatures are set to soar in the run-up to Easter, with the mercury expected to rise to 18C in London.

Bookmakers have now slashed the odds for this Easter becoming the hottest on record from 5/1 to 2/1.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: "It looks as though we've turned a corner on the weather front and we could well be in for some record-breaking high temperatures over the coming weeks."

However, Brits should brace themselves for a wave of chilly weather before the Easter sunshine.

BBC forecaster Louise Lear said: "The real change to the weather story arrives on Thursday night into Friday.

"This cold front associated with this low pressure is going to drive in colder air and some wetter weather with it, also some pretty windy weather.

"That will be a bit of a shock to the system... a noticeably colder day for all of us on Friday."

Ms Lear also warned of wintry showers on Friday, with 'disappointing' temperatures reaching a maximum of 9C.

However, the BBC has forecast the hottest weather of the year so far next week, with highs of 18C expected in London on March 30 and 31, MyLondon reports.
