Britons will continue to experience a mixture of sunny spells and heavy showers until Friday, the Met Office has said.
The changeable weather is being caused by an area of low pressure around the UK.
Aidan McGivern, a meteorologist at the Met Office, said: “Like Monday, Tuesday will offer some sunshine but there will also be some heavy showers out there and a few thunderstorms”.
After a bright start to the day, there will be plenty of sunshine across north-east Scotland and the south coast of England in particular.
However, some heavy downpours are expected in other areas of the UK during the afternoon, generally in the west.
“Not everyone will catch one [a shower], but where they do occur they’ll be slow-moving, so that means they could dump an awful lot of rainfall in a short spell of time,” Mr McGivern added.
There is also the chance of thunder, hail and lightning in some places.
Temperatures will be high in many areas, with the mercury set to reach 26C in south-east England, 24C in western Scotland and 23C in Northern Ireland.
Elsewhere, mist over the north-east coast will make those areas feel much cooler, with maximum temperatures of around 14C.
Going into Wednesday, there will be sunny spells and “randomly distributed” heavy showers throughout the day. Conditions on Thursday and Friday will be similarly mixed.
Once again, Wednesday will be a warm day for much of the UK. The south-east of England, where there will be highs of around 25C, will have the pick of the weather.
