UK weather: Brits to soak up the sun with 15C temperatures and heatwave on way

Temperatures are expected to return to 15C on Thursday but within weeks we could be baking in sweltering 30C conditions.

Many Brits will soak up the sun despite a frosty start to the day making for another cold morning.

It will be warmest in the east of England today, with the south expected to be breezy.

But we could see temperatures soon double with a heat-wave set to arrive inside two weeks.

The mercury could be set to hit 31C, meaning it could be a scorcher over the May Bank Holiday.

Climate pattern La Nina will play a large part in the sudden spike.

Warm air is predicted to sweep across Northern Europe and the UK at the start of next month.

Meteorologist Jim Dale claims some very warm weather is in front of us.

“There will definitely be some spikes of heat as we go into summer when I expect to see temperatures in the high 20Cs or even the low 30Cs," the British Weather Services expert said.

“This is largely because of a balancing effect which, after the colder period of weather over the past couple of months, dominated by a northerly airflow, should revert and come from a more southerly direction.

But it's another really chilly start for all (Anita Maric / SWNS)

“This will bring more in the way of hotter weather as we go through the end of spring and into summer.

“This summer could be up there with the warmer ones from the past ten years, it is more likely to turn out one of the warmer ones that to be cooler.”

Friday will be dry with lots of sunshine expected, and just some patchy fair-weather cloud.

A nice weekend is forecast across England and Wales, with cloud in some parts of Scotland.

Until the temperatures soar, the Met Office says we should expect chilly evenings, with frost possible.
