UK weather: Brits could enjoy heatwave as Met Office reports 'hot conditions' likely

Britain could be basking in the sun for a further 10 days at least - with reports of a new heatwave on the way.

The Met Office's long-term forecast up to June 20 reveals that there is "an increased risk of hot conditions".

It adds that temperatures will "trend towards the warmer side of average" - signalling a potentially balmy month for Brits.

The mercury is expected to remain above 20Cs all week in many places, with sunshine forecast for most.

London will see highs of 26C - making it hotter than Barcelona, Nice and St. Lucia.

And reports suggest that temperatures could rise even higher as the month continues - topping 30C by July.

Bookies Ladbrokes are even offering odds of just 1/3 that that number could be reached by the end of this week.

A spokesman said: "The latest odds suggest we're well on course for a record-breaking hot month, with temperatures now likely to smash the 30C barrier before the week is out."

The Met Office told The Sun that it is too early to tell if June 2021 could be the hottest ever - but warm conditions look likely.

A spokesman said: "We are looking at what could be hot conditions over the next few weeks, but it’s still very early to tell whether it will be the hottest June yet.

"High pressure is starting to build which should lead to fine and dry conditions, with the occasional showery and thundery outbreaks.

"We’re hopefully looking at what will be a very nice June indeed."

Lockdown-weary Brits have been making the most of the beautiful weather over the last few weeks, with thousands heading to the beach.
