The UK is set for “particularly potent” pollen this summer, the Met Office has warned.

Due to the wet and warm weather in May, experts have said the pollen may be stronger this season although counts are not higher than the average.

Yolanda Clewlow, the Met Office relationship manager for health and air quality, told the Met Office's Weather Snap podcast: "The potency of these pollen grains could be more intense this year, and that comes down to the weather we've had in spring.

"A warm and wet May, coupled with a relatively warm spring, mean there's a chance that the pollen that has developed is particularly potent."

Allergy UK also warned of thudnerstorm asthma, whereby those who suffer from asthma and hay fever, experience worse symptomsdue to usnettled conditions.

The Met Office has forecast “very high” pollen levels across England bar the northwest and northeast.

This comes after weather experts predicted temperatures of up to 23C in the capital this weekend.

Saturday is expected to reach 22C while Sunday may see a high of 23C.
