UK weather: Brits bask in glorious sunshine ahead of 'hottest day of year' at 29C

Tomorrow is set to be the hottest day of the year so far with sizzling temperatures of up to 29C.

Britain continues to enjoy the mini-heatwave with people across the nation soaking up the sun on beaches and in parks.

The mercury went over 24C for the second day in a row.

But Thursday could bring thunderstorms, lightning and hail in some parts.

Matthew Box, from the Met Office, said: “There is a low probability of 29C in London but 28C is more likely. It will be a warm and sunny day.

“It will be the highest recorded temperature this year so far.

“We are going to see temperatures all across the UK around the low to mid-20s. On Thursday, it is a transition day to less warm temperatures but there is still going to be some warm sunshine with highs of 25C.

“But the fly in the ointment is that there is also risk of some thundery showers, particularly in the afternoon.

“These are most likely from the Isle of Wight up to The Wash and eastwards.

“There is a risk of thundery downpours and lightning and some hail.

“There will also be some rain for the northern half of the UK.”
