UK weather: Britain to be hotter than the Mediterranean as temperatures hit 28C

Britain is set to be hotter than the Mediterranean this weekend with temperatures possibly soaring to 28C.

We've already had some very warm weather lately but the Met Office has said it could get even hotter.

Referring to this week's scorching temperatures, Met Office forecaster Greg Dewhurst said: "We're going to see temperatures well above the average.

"It'll get even hotter as we approach the weekend with 28C possible on Sunday.

"It could beat the record for the hottest day of the year so far."

A Met Office spokeswoman also told the Mirror : "It's been a very dry month across the board, but we do have about a week left and things could become a bit unsettled."

Temperatures are expected to dip into the teens in early June, however.

The forecast for today (Thursday, May 28) meanwhile says: "Most areas will have another dry day with plenty of warm sunshine.

"Cloudier to begin with across northern Scotland, but many parts here improving through the course of the day."

The Met Office outlook for Friday to Sunday states: "Widely very warm and sunny, although often a little cooler along eastern coasts.

"A minimal risk of an isolated shower developing across the far northwest each afternoon."
