UK Weather: Bitter cold snap to hit with wintry chill as Met Office forecasts rain for today

Apparently the weather Gods didn't get the memo that it's now May, and we should be basking in glorious sunshine.

Instead Bristol is set for a glum, grey day today (Thursday, May 2), with the Met Office forecasting heavy showers. Scroll down for an hour-by-hour forecast for Bristol.

Across the UK a bitter Arctic plunge is due to hit, leaving us shivering over the May bank holiday.

Pressure will build across the UK towards the end of the week allowing the bone-chilling cold to move further south, wrapping the whole of the country in the bitter air.

The Weather Channel says the wind chill factor will add to the raw conditions with wintry showers in Scotland and bitterly cold ‘feels-like temperatures’ for many parts of the UK.

Worst of the chill will be felt in central and northern areas of the UK where temperatures could feel sub-zero in the wind.

A spokesperson for The Weather Channel said: "Turning much cooler to end the week in a northerly air flow with a mix of sunshine and scattered showers on Friday, which will be wintry for the Scottish mountains.

“Temperatures will fall below-average for the time of year by Friday.”
