UK weather: Bitter Arctic air to spread wintry weekend chill across country

Forget sunbathing in parks this weekend, overnight frost and Arctic winds are expected to hit most of the UK.

Most of the country will experience  a wintry weekend chill this May Bank Holiday weekend.

The bitter conditions will be made worst by wintry showers due to hit Scotland.

Although temperatures will range from 7-15C across the UK, the wind will make it seem much colder in exposed northern and eastern areas.

It will be a cold and frosty start to Saturday with a brisk northerly wind, again making it seem very cool.

In Bristol, the mercury should hover around 13C today (Friday) before dipping to around 12C over the weekend.

A Met Office spokesperson said: "Colder and windy on Saturday, but largely dry with plenty of sunshine.

"Staying mostly dry with sunny spells on Sunday and Monday, leading to widespread overnight frosts."
