UK weather: Baking temperatures of 28C to hit parts of the UK as warmer weather returns

Brits will sizzle in a blistering 28C heat spell from today, forecasters have predicted.

After a relentless deluge lashed the nation throughout August the warmer weather for the last weeks of summer is finally here.

A reported 12-day heatwave began this week with temperatures starting to rise into the low to mid twenties.

The Met Office has said the mercury could hit 28C in some parts of the UK on Wednesday, with western Scotland set to be among the warmest regions.

This would make it hotter than Portuguese destinations including Madeira and the Algarve, where temperatures are expected to climb to highs of 22C.

It will stay dry and bright for many regions (PA)

The Sun reports that The Weather Outlook forecaster Brian Gaze said: “It should be one of the best spells of summer and feel pleasantly warm.

“There should be a good deal of sunshine.”

The Met Office's Alex Deakin said: "High pressure is bringing sunny skies and they will stick around for the rest of this week and into the weekend."

The blast of sunny weather is said to be down to a heat plume bringing warmth from Spain.

Overall Wednesday is forecast to see dry and sunny weather, which is expected to continue during this week and in to the weekend.

There will be some cloud tonight as well as drizzle, mainly in the east before clearer spells arrive from the north east.

It comes after heavy rain has caused flooding and miserable weather during August as well as some lower than average temperatures.

UK Weather Forecast

Today:

Dry with warm sunny periods for most, highest temperatures over southern and western parts of Scotland. Cloudier over far northern Scotland and for some central parts of England. Becoming cloudier for some North Sea coastal areas later.

Tonight:

Cloud and a little drizzle in the east slowly moving westwards with clear spells arriving from the North Sea later. Some fog patches in the west.

Thursday:

Dry with sunny spells for most but cloudier over Northern Ireland, south Wales and southwest England. Perhaps the odd shower for eastern coasts. Cooler in the east with brisk winds.
