UK weather: Alex Beresford says 'White Christmas' possible amid 'battleground' of weather fronts

Wintry showers could arrive over the next 24 hours, prompting the possibility of a White Christmas in some parts of the UK.

Giving the early forecast on the ITV morning show on Christmas Eve, Bristol's Alex Beresford said there is a battleground between hot and cold weather fronts, and it's where the two meet that people should expect some of the white stuff.

He told Good Morning Britain: "As for the weather over the Christmas period, of course, we are all talking about the chance of snow. If we take a look at the air mass, you can see there is a battleground over the UK, with warmer air down towards the south west, colder air up towards the north east. It's probably on the boundary line of these two different air masses that we are likely to see some wintry showers.

"So the possibility of a White Christmas is on the cards."

He was giving his morning update outside of Sue and Paul's winter wonderland in Cope Park, in Almondsbury.

Some weather charts have previously predicted flurries in parts of the West Country on December 25, with heavier snow expected in the North of England and Scotland.

Many people are wishing for a white Christmas after more than a decade since the last widespread one in 2010, when the most snow on Christmas was ever recorded in the country.

Snow warnings are in place across Scotland ahead of Christmas day, but sadly it looks like Bristol will only see rain tomorrow.

The mercury for our city will hover around 8C tomorrow, with the feels like temperature a bit lower at 5C.
