UK weather: 55mph gusts and rain set to batter UK as warnings issued

A 'danger to life' warning has been issued for wind and rain as gales of up to 55mph could hit the UK tomorrow (Friday).

The yellow weather warnings are in place during various times throughout the day. Experts at the Met Office have warned of a risk of flying debris, longer journey times and power cuts.

Parts of Wales, the North West of England and swathes of Scotland are all included in the yellow weather warnings.

Met Office meteorologist Marco Petagna told The Sun the windy weather can be attributed to low-pressure systems.

Mr Petagna said: “Monday’s low-pressure system will be followed by another on Tuesday and a third on Thursday.

“The centres of these lows are over Iceland, our wet and windy weather will be associated with these lows.

“There will be a risk of severe gales on Tuesday before it turns briefly calmer but colder on Wednesday, another low pressure comes in on Thursday.”

It should be dry for residents in Bristol throughout this morning, however things will turn wetter around 3pm when there's 80 per cent chance of rain.

Temperatures will peak at 10C on Thursday before dropping to 8C on Friday.
