Spain’s Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, has announced that he would hold a meeting today to discuss measures to stop the spread of the new Covid variant, Omicron - which could see Brits banned from entering the country for winter holidays.
Spain is one of the most popular destinations for British holidaymakers and it has already recently tightened its entry rules for UK travellers, with entry to the country dependent on vaccination status.
It is widely understood new travel restrictions could be put in place and that one area seemingly at risk is entry to the country for travel and leisure purposes.
PM Sanchez’s statement read: “This call, which will have a telematic format and will be carried out from the Senate, which is the home of each and every one of the territories of Spain, has as its objective the analysis of the evolution of the pandemic and the study of measures shared to deal with it.”

Spain’s official tourism website stated: “Tourists who are British nationals or legal residents in the United Kingdom are only able to travel to Spain with a vaccination certificate.”
But there are fears Spain could become harder to enter after France and Germany banned UK travellers last week - with Sweden and Austria following suit this week.
Fellow popular winter sun destination Portugal has already announced greater restrictions within the country, with nightclubs closed and a limit on private gatherings.
Portuguese bars and clubs will also be shut from December 26, and the country will work from home until January.
