UK to see warmer temperatures than Crete this weekend

The UK is set to enjoy a blast of warmth this week with temperatures hotter than Crete.

Sunny spells and highs of 15°C have been predicted for the UK this weekend while the Greek island will see rain and highs of 13°C.

The warm break after a chilly start to April brings a wave of optimism as Brits step out to enjoy eased lockdown restrictions.

Blue skies are set to stay clear for most of the UK with only a few scattered showers predicted for the southeast midweek.

Chilly breezes along the North Sea coasts and mild wind in the southwest may sweep in but temperatures are set to stay warm throughout in the south, Mirror reports.

In the North East, there will be some bright and sunny spells this weekend but also chilly temperatures and slight frost.

Here is the Met Office forecast:

Saturday

"Dry throughout, with large amounts of high cloud initially but still some bright spells, then later sunny spells developing. Feeling noticeably cooler everywhere compared to Friday, with the highest temperatures inland in the west. Maximum temperature 10 °C."

Saturday evening

"Mainly clear skies, although some patchy cloud may develop, most likely along the coast and over high ground. Becoming chilly, with a slight frost for prone rural locations. Minimum temperature -2 °C."

Sunday

"Chilly but largely sunny start, then becoming cloudier for many areas. But still some sunny spells will occur. Highest temperatures in the west, feeling chilly along the coast. Maximum temperature 13 °C."

Outlook for Monday to Wednesday

"Monday bright or sunny spells, then cloud and outbreaks of rain later. Tuesday showers or longer spells of rain. Wednesday some light showers, becoming dry with bright spells. Rather cool."
