UK summer holidays on the cards as Nicola Sturgeon likely to lift five-mile guidance

Nicola Sturgeon has announced that it is likely that Scotland will go ahead with its plans to lift the five-mile travel guidance from 3 July.

While the tourism sector will not open fully until 15 July, the First Minister confirmed that "self-contained" holidays such as "holiday cottages, lodges and caravans" are likely to be given the go-ahead from the third.

The First Minister confirmed that these "self-contained" holidays are planned to re-open from 3rd July as long as they do not have "shared services"

Speaking live from Holyrood the First Minister said: "I can confirm that on the 3 July it is our intention to lift the guidance advising people in Scotland to travel no more than five miles for leisure or recreation purposes

"Although the tourism sector will not open fully until the 15th we intend that self-contained holiday accommodation, for example, holiday cottages and lodges or caravans where there are no shared services can open from 3 July

"However we would ask people to use good judgment abide by the rules at any time that apply to households meeting up and be sensitive to those living in a rural and island community."
